ON-STAGE CONVERSATION WITH PLAYWRIGHT CLAIRE CHAFEE
3GT co-founder AJ Baker interviews acclaimed Bay Area playwright Claire Chafee about her work, her process and her trail-blazing path as a woman who’s put her work on stage, where it belongs! Join us for a “City Arts & Lectures”-style conversation, including an audience Q&A, that’s sure to be both illuminating and entertaining.
CLAIRE CHAFEE’s play, Why We Have a Body, had its recent 10th anniversary revival at Magic Theatre in fall 2011, was produced Off-Broadway at the Judith Anderson Theatre by The Women’s Project and has been produced in numerous theatres around the country. Other plays include Even Among These Rocks, also produced at Magic, Darwin’s Finches, produced by Encore Theatre at The Thick House, Five Women on a Hill In Spain at the Minneapolis Fringe Festival and The Greene Theatre, Emerson, Boston and Whisper from the Book of Etiquette at New Georges, the Bay Area Playwrights Festival and New York Stage and Screen at Vassar. Her awards include a Drama-Logue Award, the Bay Area Critics’ Circle Award, a Princess Grace Special Projects Award, and the Oppenheimer Award from New York Newsday for Best Emerging Playwright. Her work has been published by Penguin Books, Smith & Kraus and others. Claire is a member of The Dramatists Guild, and holds an MFA from Brown University and an EdM in arts education from Harvard University. She teaches graduate creative writing at California College of the Arts (CCA).
BEHIND THE SCENES: NEW ART WORK BY SUSANNA BAKER AND RACHEL LEIBMAN. As part of our Celebration of Women’s History Month, 3GT is thrilled to present an exhibit of the work of two innovative mixed-media artists Rachel Leibman and Susanna Baker. During our Opening Weekend party, the artists will be on hand to discuss their work, as well as how their creative friendship has contributed to it. Download a press release about the exhibit here.
Behind the Scenes will be exhibited at Thick House during the full run of our Celebration of Women’s History Month and can be viewed during any of 3GT’s plays, readings and events between March 8 and April 1. There will also be a satellite venue for the art exhibition at Café Brioche at 210 Columbus Avenue. The artists’ work will be hung at the café from March 5 to April 30. Ten percent of the proceeds of all sales made during Celebration of Women’s History Month will be donated by the artists to 3Girls Theatre!
GROOVE TO THE MUSIC OF PIANO MAN JOSHUA RAOUL BRODY
San Francisco’s favorite piano man Joshua Raoul Brody was recently described as “reliably excellent”by Robert Hurwitt in the Chronicle. What more do you need to know? You can find his name drops and a calendar that’s updated at least twice a year at www.jraoul.org. (But here’s more, just in case you need it!).

Dennis, you are so on top of things! I made the change. AJ
