3Girls Theatre is privileged to work with some of the Bay Area’s most outstanding  actors during our 2012 season.

CATHERINE CASTELLANOS*

Catherine Castellanos is a company member with Campo Santo, resident theatre company for Intersection for the Arts, where she has participated in over a dozen world premieres with writers Greg Sarris, Junot Diaz, Vendela Vida, Naomi Iizuka, Octavio Solis, Jessica Hagedorn, Cherríe Moraga, Jimmy Santiago Baca, Luis Saguar, Sean San José, and 5+ premieres of Denis Johnson. She is an Associate Artist with California Shakespeare Theatre, working in over 12 production for the past 10 seasons. Catherine has worked in numerous houses throughout the bay area, receiving various award nominations from The Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle, Dean Goodman Dramalogue, and Broadway World, being the recipient of Best Supporting and Best Leading Actress awards, and several Best Ensemble. Regionally, Catherine has worked with San Jose Rep, The Magic, The Lensic in Santa Fe, Arena Stage in DC, and Yale Rep. Her most recent work was with Shotgun Players in Berkeley playing the leading role in Adam Bock’s adaptation of PHAEDRA, under the direction of Rose Riordan. She teaches acting classes in SF at Shelton Studios, home of her mentor Jean Shelton. She also works in Artistic Learning as director/instructor with Cal Shakes Summer Conservatory, Stagewrite, and with the SF public schools, instructing elementary, middle, and high school students. She is currently collaborating on a premier docudrama with various artists and with the men in blue in San Quentin, for their purpose of a raised level of consciousness toward healing to ultimately stop the violence and loss of innocent victims. Her gratitude and praise will forever be to her sons, Miles and Gabriel, for their constant and continued inspiration, and generosity in sharing their mother with the theatre.

JOHN FLANAGAN *

Johnny  Flanagan ’s accomplished theatrical career comprises award winning performances throughout the Bay Area, including at San Jose Stage (ON THE WATERFRONT, GOD’S COUNTRY), Marin Theatre Company(THE SEAFARER, THE HAIRY APE, and LADY IN THE DARK), the Magic Theatre (Sam Shepard’s GOD OF HELL, the Dean Goodman Award-winning role of Curt in BLUE SURGE, the Charles Mee world premiere of SUMMERTIME, and A COMMON VISION), SF Playhouse (BUG), WordforWord (ANGEL FACE), San Jose Rep (SIDEMAN), Center Rep (THE PAVILION), the Hapgood (A FEW GOOD MEN, and as Tyrone in A MOON FOR THE MISBEGOTTEN), Encore Theatre (world premiere of Adam Rapp’s DREAMS OF THE SALTHORSE), Campo Santo (world premiere of Erin Cressida Wilson’s HURRICANE), Shotgun Players (SWIMMING IN THE SHALLOWS), The Eureka Theatre (MARISOL), and more. Mr. Flanagan was also a charter member of the BATCC and Goldie Award-winning theatre company The Fifth Floor.

LOL LEVY  (Dave Heller in THE RIGHT THING)

Lol Levy has worked extensively in theatre, film and television. Theatre credits include: GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS, KVETCH, A CHIP IN THE SUGAR, LUNCH, RECKLESS, Woody Allens’ GOD, Joe Franks’ RENT A FAMILY, and the following all written by Pinter: ASHES TO ASHES, THE COLLECTION, MONOLOGUE, THE LOVER, BETRAYAL, SILENCE, and THE HOTHOUSE. Other theatres include Berkeley Repertory Theatre, The Globe Playhouse, Powerhouse Theatre, and Stages Theatre Center. Film and television credits include Nash Bridges, Thirtysomething, General Hospital, Not Necessarily The News, and Howard The Duck. He was most recently seen on film as Hollard, the blind, but all seeing cult leader, in the award winning short film Cult Fiction.

DENNIS MCINTYRE

Dennis McIntyre has been performing around the Bay Area for several decades. His first brush with Theatre was a photo opp, aged two, on the lap of the late, great Sara Allgood. Fifteen years later, he would find himself cast in PAJAMA GAME’s only one-line role. He fled the East Coast in 1969, confident that he would find his future in San Francisco, among his fellow misfits. He was not disappointed. He is a proud, long-standing, and wholly unrepentant member of SAG, AFTRA, and Black Rock City’s Gate/Perimeter staff. He was a Critic’s Circle Best Actor nominee for his portrayal of Tobias, in Custom Made Theatre’s 2009 production of Albee’s A DELICATE BALANCE. Other favorite roles include those of Cardinal Richelieu, in Shotgun Player’s THREE MUSKETEERS, and Ulrich, in Virago Theatre’s AFTERLIFE OF THE MIND. He would like to acknowledge Santa, the Tooth Fairy, and the Easter Bunny, for teaching him everything anyone really needs to know about Suspension of Disbelief.

RANDI MERZON

After an eight year hiatus spent raising her son, Randi Merzon is thrilled to be on stage again.   Some of her favorite roles have included Barbara De Marco in SHEAR MADNESS, Suzanne in DON’T DRESS FOR DINNER at the Lucie Stern Theatre and Angst Ensemble’s LIFE DURING WARTIME.   Randi has had the great good fortune to put her voice to work in commercials, industrials, and video games. Currently Randi is an artist in-residence at Lafayette Elementary School.   She leads a creative life by the sea with her family.

LOUIS PARNELL* 

Louis Parnell  has worked extensively as an actor and director with numerous companies in the Bay Area including American Conservatory Theatre, Campo Santo, CCT, Center Repertory, CentralWorks, The Magic, Marin Theatre Company, SF Playhouse, TheatreWorks, Thick Description and Traveling Jewish Theatre; as well as with many smaller nomadic companies. He most recently appeared in TJT’s productions of DEAD MOTHER and DEATH OF A SALESMAN followed by CABARET, CORONADO, MAN OF LA MANCHA, THE FANTASTICKS and ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST all at the SF Playhouse, where he also directed RECKLESS. Other favorite acting performances include leading roles in ART, AFTER THE FALL, ANGELS IN AMERICA, THE BOYS IN THE BAND, IT HAD TO BE YOU, SPEED-THE-PLOW and TALLEY’S FOLLY. Favorite directing gigs include AMERICAN BUFFALO, DEATHTRAP, FOUR DOGS AND A BONE, HURLYBURLY, PRIVATE EYES and RECKLESS. He has been honored with 10 BATCC nominations for acting or directing (4 wins) and 5 DramaLogue and Dean Goodman Choice Awards. He has also performed in numerous film, television and commercial roles including TRAUMA, NASH BRIDGES, AMERICA’S MOST WANTED and the PBS documentary RALPH ELLISON: AN AMERICAN LIFE which was an official selection at the Sundance Film Festival in 2006. He is on the Board of Directors of the SF Playhouse, was a founding member of Genesius Theatre Company and the Actors Theatre of SF, and is a proud member of Playground at Berkeley Rep, SAG, AFTRA and AEA.

MARIE SHELL*

Marie Shell  has performed professionally in the Bay Area for over 25 years, most recently as “Mrs. Paroo” in THE MUSIC MAN at Woodminster Summer Musicals, “Louise” in ALWAYS…PATSY CLINE and Mrs. van Daan in THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK, both at San Jose Stage. Other credits include Marin Shakespeare Company (five seasons), TheatreWorks, The Willows, Magic Theatre, Pacific Alliance Stage Company, California Conservatory Theatre, Sierra Repertory Theatre and in the national touring shows SHEAR MADNESS (two years) and MENOPAUSE, THE MUSICAL. She performed her own solo show, LEARNING NOW FOR VEGAS LATER, at The Marsh, and has performed as a singer and sketch comedienne at numerous venues including The Other Cafe and The Great American Music Hall. As a founding member of the comedy group The Ethel Merman Memorial Choir, she appeared at The Comedy Store (Hollywood), The Warfield, San Francisco Pops Symphony, The Herbst Theatre, Oakland Coliseum (Day on the Green) and many others, with acts as diverse as Metallica, En Vogue, Eddie Fisher and Joel Grey. Marie received her MFA from The Academy for Classical Acting in conjunction with The George Washington University (Washington, DC).   She is a proud member of Actor’s Equity Association since 1986.

HELEN SHUMAKER

Helen Shumaker has worked Off Broadway and Off Off Broadway: with Ethyl Eichelberger, Karen Finley, Joan Cusack, John Albano, Madeleine Olnek, the bad neighbors theater company, Tom Judson and Michael Feingold at PS 122, The Kitchen, W.O.W., Dixon Place, La Mama, Cherry Lane Theater among others. In LA and SF with Ellen Sebastian Chang, John O’Keefe, J. Raoul Brody, Word For Word, Magic Theater, Campo Santos, Cast Theater. She has directed herself in four solo plays including MONA ROGERS IN PERSON by Philip Galas. Film: she is featured in the Kornbluth Bro’s HAIKU TUNNEL, appeared in Francis Coppola’s JACK. Television: Three PBS specials on New Works and Performance Art. Radio: NPR’s THE HOLLOW. Awards include: Emmy, three Drama Logue performance awards (LA and SF), Back Stage Award for performance (NYC), Bay Area Critic’s Circle Awards: Performance – Female, and Solo Performance, Bay Guardian Goldie Award for Solo Performance.

KARINA WOLFE

Karina Wolfe has been a performer, generator, and educator of theatre throughout her life. She received her BFA in the acting/ Original Works program at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle in 2007. Following graduation, she co-founded The Heart Hustle Collective with a group of peers committed to creating original, cross-disciplinary work. HHC productions have been mounted across the country and include a two-woman show, FANCY GUTS and GHOSTS (co-written and directed by Wolfe), which was featured in The New York International Fringe Festival. Aside from theatre, Karina also enjoys pursuing her film career, and has been involved with several independent film projects in the Bay Area over the last few years.  In 2011 she played the lead role of Desdemona in Paula Vogel’s DESDEMONA: A PLAY ABOUT A HANDKERCHIEF at Boxcar Theatre .
