As part of our mission to support women and girls in theatre, 3GT will launch the Go Girl! Theatre Project in 2012. Go Girl! Theatre will give voice to young women (8-18) who might otherwise not be heard by giving them the opportunity to create plays that represent their everyday issues, their dreams and their own brand of great entertaining theatre. The program will provide education and outreach to the female playwrights of tomorrow, particularly girls from lower socio-economic households and those in at-risk or compromised situations. Channeling and guiding the restless energy of teenage girls into art is a proven (and potent) antidote to other, less positive inner city alternatives. 3Girls Theatre aims to make this kind of constructive creativity possible to our students.
Girls will be recruited primarily from Bay Area public schools. We intend Go Girl! to be an after school/ summer program during which these young women will write, cast, rehearse and stage plays under the aegis of 3GT’s Artistic Director and other visiting artists. 3GT will produce the result as a Go Girl! Theatre showcase, where the community will have the chance to applaud – and enjoy! –the creative efforts of our talented students. Members of our first 2012 Go Girl Theatre! student class will join us as interns for the Season Premiere month.
If you, or a girl you know, would like to become a participant in the Go Girl! Theatre Project, please contact our Artistic Director, Suze Allen. If you are an angel who wants to help make this program happen through your financial support or sponsorship, please contact our Managing Director, Alisa Baker. We want to hear from you!
