2013 CWHM: 3GT Theatre Lab Special Session

REGISTRATION NOW OPEN FOR  OUR CWHM SPECIAL SESSION

Our mission includes furthering the craft of women playwrights and directors.    3GT’s Theatre Lab (under the expert direction of our Dramaturge/Director of Education,  Suze Allen) offers coaching, dramaturgy and development in the form of classes, workshops and individual instruction throughout the season.  3GT Theatre Lab classes are open to 3GT associates as well as to the general public.  Our education program has two purposes:  to help artists and to help 3GT!  3GT Theatre Lab is the best way for us to be introduced to Bay Area women who might find their artistic home with us as 3GT associate playwrights .  We strongly encourage playwrights (and directors) who would like to work with 3GT to get to know us by participating in Theatre Lab.

Here’s what 3GT students have to say about Suze Allen’s workshops:

My experience with the Lab has been nothing less than exceptional. The small class size promises that each writer receives, as much support and attention from the group as possible, and Suze Allen is, without a doubt, the best playwrighting teacher a person could hope for. With warmth, clarity, patience, creativity, and boundless encouragement, Suze creates a space for playwrights of all levels to create and explore their pieces-in-progress in a comfortable atmosphere (Suze’s cozy studio, and her wide selection of tea and snacks, only add to this gorgeous comfort!). Because of my experience working with Suze and my Lab group, I have re-discovered my passion for playwrighting, and am eager to continue my writing. I simply cannot fully express all I have learned from Suze, nor can I recommend the Lab highly enough to anyone!  Abigail Ebder

I actually wrote something!   Suze Allen’s play writers lab creates an inspirational creative space where I was able to collaborate with other writers and most importantly write.  Suze doesn’t just have you show up and read – she actually teaches you and inspires you through in class writing challenges, structure sessions that focus on technique and a great final class with real actors.  – Great Lab!  Molly Kelly

What’s so great about Suze’s classes is that first of all, where else in the world are you going to find a women’s playwrighting class? That alone speaks volumes. Bonus: it’s a wonderfully supportive and inspiring atmosphere as well. Suze is blissfully free of the posturing, namedropping, playing favorites, and all the usual list of teacher crimes and misdemeanors. She listens very closely, has wonderful exercises, and gives great feedback. You learn from everyone’s work, not just your own. And regardless of your level, she always has a next step for you, so you’re inspired to try to take it. And even if you’re like me and can find 1000 excuses why not to write, the class helps bring you back to face the music – and dance!  Jeanette Sarmiento
