The Hon. Patrice “Pat” McElroy (she/her) is a retired hearing judge and the Assistant Supervising Judge of the State Bar Court of California. Judge McElroy currently serves as a member of the Board of Governors of UC Hastings College of Law and the board of Lawyer Referral Service Committee of the Bar Association of San Francisco (BASF). She is a tireless and honored defender of childrens’ rights in the community, and has been a board member of the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center, the Community Alliance for Special Education, the San Francisco Child Abuse Council and the Children’s Mental Health Policy Board. From 1997 – 2000, she was the Executive Director of the Bay Area Association of Advocates for Children. She is a member of the Dependency Review Panel of the BASF and of the Northern California Association of Counsel for Children. From 1998 until her initial appointment to the State Bar Court in 2001, Judge McElroy represented children in her private practice Prior to that time, she was a staff attorney for the National Center for Youth Law and a Principal Trial Attorney for the Office of Public Defender in San Francisco. A Bay Area native, Judge McElroy received her law degree from Hastings and her undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley. In addition to all of her work for the legal community, she is a passionate supporter of the arts and a charter supporter of 3Girls Theatre Company.
