Salon Reading Series
& Brady Fellows Program
Original works-in-progress by our award-winning cohort of emerging women playwrights
in their prime
What:
3GT’s legacy staged reading program, the Salon Reading Series, was created specifically to present the work of women dramatists who take a nontraditional path to professional theatre-making. Emerging playwrights over 40 all too often find their development opportunities frustrated because “emerging” translates to “20-something” in the eyes of theatre producers. 3GT is one of the only companies nationwide to provide dedicated development and production support for women writers in this highly marginalized age group. In 2023, LezWritesBTQ was merged into 3GT's Salon Series program to form 3GT's Reading Series celebrating the intersectionality across these two cohorts!
Who:
Each year, the Company invites emerging Bay Area women playwrights 40+ to apply for a slot in our Salon Series cohort by becoming a Brady Fellow. Our Brady Fellows Program offers artistic support, commitment and community to women theatre-makers "in their prime" who share 3GT's passion for bringing stories told by women to the stage. We provide each Brady Fellow with a professional team and resources, including a dramaturg, director and cast. We support their new play through drafts to a staged reading for a live audience, a springboard for further development.
Where:
Starting October 2021. we welcomed audiences back to the theatre! Our free monthly staged readings took place at the landmark Phoenix Theatre located in the San Francisco's vibrant Union Square cultural district. To view past Salon Series readings, visit our YouTube Channel where we have a Salon Series Playlist!
Thank you to our 2022-2023 Salon Series Cohort!
Lee Brady 3GT Co-Founder
3GT’s legacy development program is named in honor of our beloved co-founder, Lee Brady. Lee's celebrated 50+ year career as a playwright, critic, teacher and all-around theatre guru continues to inspire us every day .
The Brady Fellows Program
The Brady Fellowship is for emerging Bay Area women and AFAB writers who are: over 40 and/or BIPOC and/or LBTQ+. Each play is supported with dramaturgy and given a full staged reading in front of an audience. This is invaluable support for an emerging writer.
This year's window for Brady Fellows opens April 1st and closes May 30th. For questions about the application or program, email Literary Director Pamela Hollings.
“Readings are the best way figure out what’s wrong with a play. Hearing the words out loud in front of an engaged Salon Series audience brings them to life and shows what’s missing. . . There’s just no substitute to get your script to the next level.”
– SUSAN JACKSON, SALON SERIES PLAYWRIGHT
